Quick Sugar Highs…
Why do you get a rush when you eat a midday candy bar? The sugar in it — called a simple carbohydrate — is quickly turned into glucose in your bloodstream. Your blood sugar levels spike. Simple carbs are also found in fruits, veggies, and dairy products. But these have fiber and protein that slow the process. Syrup, soda, candy, and table sugar don’t.

Your body needs to move glucose out of the bloodstream and into your cells for energy. To do this, your pancreas makes insulin, a hormone. As a result, your blood sugar level may have a sudden drop. This rapid change in blood sugar leaves you feeling wiped out and shaky and searching for more sweets to regain that sugar “high.” So that midday sugary treat has set you up for more bad eating.

What Causes Sugar Addiction?
Sugar addiction often causes weight issues. Being overweight is often referred to as ‘psychic protection’ and is very taxing, not only on the body, but also on the mind and spirit. The relentless feelings of despair and critical self-talk in addition to the physical state of strain can wear those who are overweight down to a frazzle. This cycle spirals, causing an even deeper state of despair. I work to assist my clients in neutralize the ‘triggers’ that compel them to eat for reasons other than choosing nutritious food when they are hungry. Things such as frustration, escape and depression all contribute to a cycle of eating to numb the perceived pain. By working with the real issue behind the symptom of overeating, one can gracefully let go of the negative association one has with food. You can gain control of the way you choose to eat.
My clients no longer feel the need to binge and crave unhealthy foods. Cravings and binging are completely eliminated. Food ceases to be the focus of your life, as your comforter or your escape. You are internally driven to a state of healthy balance. As my clients pattern of eating changes naturally, they often begin to crave fruits and vegetables and find a new joy in nurturing their physical being without feeling deprived. The stress of yo-yo fad dieting can cause is eliminated because food is no longer used as a coping mechanism, but to nourish, your physical being. This is why I am called the Get Off Sugar Guru.
