Do You experience Panic Attacks?
The Hallmark of Panic Disorder: A panic attack is a sudden surge of overwhelming fear that comes without warning and without any obvious reason. It is far more intense than the feeling of being “stressed out” that most people experience. Symptoms of a panic attack include:
- racing heartbeat
- difficulty breathing, feeling as though you “can’t get enough air”
- terror that is almost paralyzing
- dizziness, lightheadedness or nausea
- trembling, sweating, shaking
- choking, chest pains
- hot flashes, or sudden chills
- tingling in fingers or toes (“pins and needles”)
- fear that you’re going to go crazy or are about to die
You probably recognize this as the classic “flight or fight” response that human beings experience when we are in a situation of danger. But during a panic attack, these symptoms seem to rise from out of nowhere. They occur in seemingly harmless situations–they can even happen while you are asleep. In addition to the above symptoms, a panic attack is marked by the following conditions:
- it occurs suddenly, without any warning and without any way to stop it.
- the level of fear is way out of proportion to the actual situation; often, in fact, it’s completely unrelated.
- it passes in a few minutes; the body cannot sustain the “fight or flight” response for longer than that. However, repeated attacks can continue to recur for hours.

Are you afraid of Dental Visits? Do you have a Dental Phobia?
Pain and the fear of dental pain can be treatment using hypnosis, especially useful when anesthesia cannot be used. The American Dental Association teaches the use of hypnosis in their training programs. A program outline can be found here….
Hypnosis has been shown to be an effective modality for many individuals with a dental phobia. Even the American Dental Association teaches the use and validity of using hypnosis.Hypnotherapy works by going back in time and uncovering the underlying cause of the phobia and removing the person’s conditioned habit or response to the presenting stimulus. The initial goal of the first session is to discover this presenting incident, issue or event from which the dental phobia developed.
The cause is often a traumatic issue which occurred in the past. Most often, precisely because of the trauma this event has been relegated to the unconscious. Often it is a painful and repressed memory.Repression as Dr Sigmund Freud pioneered is a protective mechanism the mind utilizes to force the memory of the trauma into the unconscious, from where it causes havoc and phobia in the future.By accessing this early memory, while in an extremely relaxed state the unconscious may be accessed. While in this deep state of suggestibility the client is very receptive to an alternative understanding of the presenting incident or issue. A different understanding delivers a different perspective int the present and the desired change.Unconscious memories may be unlocked during this time and brought to conscious awareness.
Accessing these old memories consciously enables the client to better understand the traumatic past and become more adept at managing the present, because the unconscious fear has now been made visible and thus no longer threatening. When this is achieved, the phobia generally disappears! This process this known as hypnotic regression. The number of hypnosis sessions required for effectively dealing with dental phobias varies, and depends on several factors.
- how long the person has had the phobia
- how severely the phobia affects him
- the person’s maturity, his personality structure,
- how determined he is to be free from the phobia.
In general, it will take approximately three or four hypnotherapy sessions. However, in severe cases, it can take more.
